Vice president Yemi Osinbajo says there is need for an urgent, honest and frank conversation about judicial reforms in Nigeria.
This was contained in a statement signed by a presidential media aide, Laolu Akande.
According to him, this becomes necessary especially in the selection and appointment of judges in Nigeria, given the significant roles judges in the affairs of the nation.
He said the integrity of the judicial system is crucial to everything in the society hence the need for stakeholders to engage in an honest and frank discussion that examines the challenges and prospects.
Prof. Osinbajo was speaking at the Justice Research Institute (JRI) virtual roundtable at the weekend on the theme “Selection and Appointment of Judges: Lessons for Nigeria”
He was joined on the virtual round table by leaders from Judiciary, legislature and legal community to discuss required judicial reforms in the country.
The Vice President said integrity is central to everything including how the economy works, social justice; maintenance of the rights of citizens and also central to democracy.
