Anis Rehman Siddique, speaks against the background of Nigeria being polio-free for the past 45 months.

The Head, Immunisation and Health Systems, UNICEF Nigeria says that from experience, any country which is polio-free for three years or more, it is unlikely that the virus will return.

Siddique speaking exclusively with Boss FM says that Pakistan and Afghanistan are countries where the poliovirus still exists, so it is important to guard against it coming back from such countries.

He says the disease is defeated through regular immunization or campaign and Nigeria’s intense polio campaign and surveillance made helped the country achieve the polio-free status, so all stakeholders have to work towards sustaining it
