Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama says that the actions of few criminal elements such as Hushpuppi and other Nigerians arrested by Dubai Police over cybercrimes cannot define Nigeria and its image abroad.
Onyeama said this as a special guest on News Agency of Nigeria Forum in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
The minister made it clear that the Nigerian government cannot defend criminal acts and he thinks it would be wrong to do so; rather the government cooperates with other countries to address those problems.
Despite that, he expressed the belief that many more Nigerians are doing very good things and positive things around the world than Nigerians doing negative things.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs cited an example with Ikenna Nweke, a Nigerian doctorate student in University of Tsukuba, Japan, who returned a missing wallet with huge sums of money to the police and also turned down offer of a percentage by the authorities.
Nweke said he returned the money because that was the way he was brought up as a Nigerian and has received accolades from different quarters for projecting the values of honesty, integrity and contentment.
