COURT STRIKES OUT SUIT AGAINST OBASEKI OVER ALLEGED CERTIFICATE FORGERY

OBASEKI

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed a suit filed against Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, south-south Nigeria over alleged certificate forgery.

Petitioners in the suit Edobor Williams, Ugbesia Godwin and Amedu Anakhu accused Obaseki of forging his Bachelor of Arts certificate in Classical Studies from the University of Ibadan.

They prayed the court to among others, hold that Obaseki is “not qualified to run or seek election to the office of the governor of Edo State” in the forthcoming 2020 governorship election.

Justice Anwuli Chiekere struck out the suit on Monday after both the plaintiffs and defendant failed to appear in court at the mention of the case.
