As fallout from activities of Desertification And Drought Day, a Nigerian climatologist is asking the government to step up effort to address desertification and its consequences in the country.
This year’s event focused on the links between consumption and land.
An independent consultant, Professor Emmanuel Oladipo, formerly of ABU Zaria and UNDP, Nigeria, said a major consequence of desertification is land degradation and Nigeria is under threat.
The Professor of Climatology with research specialization on drought explained that once the land is degraded, it reduces the ability of the people to use it for meaningful productions.
He warns that with that livelihood could be completely wiped out in many instances or threatened, resulting in migration and occasional conflicts in many areas as is being witnessed in many parts of northern Nigeria
Professor of climatology, Emmanuel Oladipo was speaking in an exclusive interview with Boss FM News.
