CHAIRMAN HOUSE COMMITTEE ON NIGER DELTA WITHDRAWS FROM PRESIDING OVER HEARING ON NDDC

Before the fact-finding activities of the investigative committee started on Monday, Chairman of the House Committee on Niger Delta, Bunmi Tunji-Ojo stepped aside from presiding over the affairs of the Committee, paving the way for Thomas Ereyitomi to take up the role.

Tunji-Ojo said his reason for withdrawing from presiding over the hearing today was to allow fair hearing, is that the acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Prof. Kemebradikumo Pondei said he does not believe the NDDC can have justice as the lawmaker is an interested party.

Last Thursday, Prof Pondei walked out on legislators investigating the alleged 40 billion Naira irregular expenditure in the commission.

On Monday, however, the House of Representatives’ investigative hearing on the NDDC had to adjourn for 30 minutes after a health emergency affected Pondei when he was being grilled.
