The International Cricket Council, ICC has announced the postponement of the T20 Cricket World Cup, after its board meeting on Monday.
The event was initially scheduled to be held later this year in Australia.
A release from the ICC confirmed that the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia 2020 has been postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The meeting of the IBC Board the commercial subsidiary of the ICC agreed for continued monitoring of the rapidly changing situation and a well-thought-out decision on future hosts to ensure the sport is able to stage safe and successful global events in 2021 and 2022.
They agreed on windows for the next three ICC men’s events for the sport to get precision to the calendar and best possible opportunity over the next three years to recover from the disruption caused by Covid-19.
According to the statement, the IBC Board will continue to evaluate the situation in relation to being able to stage the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2021 in New Zealand in February next year, while planning for the event continues as scheduled.
