WTO CONFIRMS NIGERIA’S NOMINATION OF OKONJO-IWEALA

WTO CONFIRMS NIGERIA’S NOMINATION OF OKONJO-IWEALA

The World Trade Organisation, WTO, acknowledges that Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Chair of the Board of Gavi and Nigeria’s former Finance Minister, has been nominated by #Nigeria as a candidate for the post of WTO Director-General.

The selection process for the next WTO Director-General kicked off on June 9 and will last until 8 July 2020.

According to the WTO, another African, Abdel-Hamid Mamdouh was nominated by Egypt for post the same position.

The current Director-General, Roberto Azevêdo, earlier announced he will step down on 31 August 2020.
