Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara state, north-central Nigeria has directed the reduction of the Right of Way (RoW) fee for telecommunications firms to one Naira per kilometre of fibre.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Commissioner for Communications Murtala Olanrewaju.
Olanrewaju quoted the governor as saying the directive on the reduction takes place with immediate effect.
Before the reduction, telecoms were paying 5,500 naira per linear metre as the fee for laying fibre cables in the state to strengthen their digital connections.
According to him, the decision is meant to increase digital penetration in Kwara State, ease business ratings, and ease people’s access to the internet and other digital communication even in the remotest part of the state.
In the meantime, Kwara becomes the state with second-lowest RoW fee in Nigeria after Kaduna.
